Job Summary
The Nursing Assistant (NA) provides essential patient care and support services under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This role is vital to the patient experience, assisting with daily living activities, maintaining a safe environment, and ensuring effective communication between patients and the clinical team.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct Patient Care: Perform Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, and repositioning patients.
- Clinical Support: Perform point-of-care testing (including blood glucose), record vital signs, monitor intake/output (I&O), apply telemetry monitors, and collect specimens.
- Documentation & Safety: Complete medical record documentation accurately and promptly. Adhere to all safety policies, including standard precautions and safety checks to prevent patient falls or injuries.
- Unit Coordination: Respond to call lights and telephones, pass meal trays, and ensure patient rooms and equipment are clean, organized, and stocked.
- Communication: Report changes in patient status immediately to the RN and provide instructions to patients and families as directed.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Training: Successful completion of an approved Nursing Assistant training program (provided upon hire).
- Skills: Strong knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
- Certification: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is preferred but not required.
- Technical: Basic computer skills for medical record documentation.
Licensure & Clearances
- CPR/BLS: Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification required (must include a didactic and skills component) within 30 days of hire.
- Clearances: Ability to obtain standard background clearances (Act 34).
