Medical Assistant – Oncology

(On-site / Traveling, Johnstown, PA 15901)

  • Job Type: Flex Full-Time, Direct-Hire (Permanent placement on company payroll with full-time benefits while working 28–40 hours per week; ideal for candidates seeking schedule flexibility, typically ~3 days per week)
  • Location: Johnstown, PA 15901 - Position floats between Medical Oncology offices in Johnstown and Somerset.
  • Schedule: Flex Full-Time, Day Shift (Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM; no weekends or holidays required)
  • New Hire Starting Base Pay: $18.59 – $20.93 per hour (Starting salary placement is determined by direct clinical medical assistant, oncology, phlebotomy, or patient care experience.)
  • Future Earning Potential: Position salary range progresses up to $27.96 per hour over time through performance, tenure, and clinical career ladder advancement.
Mandatory Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Completion of a Medical Assistant training program or clinical certification preferred.
  • Experience: Direct patient care or Medical Assistant experience required. Prior outpatient oncology experience preferred.
  • Technical & Clinical Competencies: Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic/treatment room duties, phlebotomy, EKGs, level-one labs, and injectable medication/vaccine administration.
  • Customer Service & Travel: Strong interpersonal skills to support nursing staff and care for cancer patients. Ability to travel/float between Johnstown and Somerset clinic sites.
How You'll Make an Impact

  • Clinical Nursing & Treatment Area Support: Assist oncology nurses and physicians with direct patient care, rooming patients, recording vitals, performing screenings, phlebotomy, level-one labs, and physician-directed injections.
  • Patient Intake & Flow Management: Welcome patients, collect medical histories, coordinate clinic flow across treatment areas, and relay care directions to patients and families.
  • Infection Control & Room Prep: Set up specialty equipment, clean exam/procedure rooms between patient visits according to CLIA/OSHA/PA Department of Health standards, and manage supply restocking.
  • Chart Management & Front Office Support: Transcribe patient data into Electronic Health Records (EHR), obtain lab/x-ray reports, verify insurance coverage, schedule follow-up appointments, and manage medical records compliant with HIPAA.
