Role Type: Full-Time, Employee of the Company (Not a temp or contract assignment)

Shift: Monday–Friday, Daylight hours (Primarily 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM; participates in an on-call rotation)

Work Arrangement: On-site / Hybrid 

Location: Washington, PA 15301

Travel: Requires regional travel to a partner community hospital facility approximately 1 to 2 days per week.

New Hire Starting Salary Range: $30.84 – $36.08 per hour (after hire, promotional increases can be earned – see below).

About the Opportunity

This is a permanent, full-time career opportunity within a dedicated Quality Management and Patient Safety division. If selected, you will be hired directly as a regular employee of the organization we represent. You will be on their payroll and eligible for their full suite of benefits from your start date. This is not a temporary, contract, or "temp-to-hire" role. This position offers high visibility as you partner with clinical teams across two regional hospital campuses to shape a culture where patient well-being comes first.

Purpose

The Healthcare Quality & Patient Safety Officer provides essential operational and analytical support to identify, investigate, and mitigate patient safety risks. Acting as a system-wide role model for a strong culture of safety, this professional leads safety initiatives, monitors federal and state regulatory requirements, and conducts comprehensive clinical risk investigations. This position bridges the gap between frontline clinical care, administrative quality metrics, and legal risk management to ensure measurable progress in regional patient outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Risk Investigation: Investigate patient safety risks through routine clinical rounds, comprehensive medical chart reviews, staff interviews, and proactive physical inspections.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Monitor, interpret, and implement patient safety requirements from federal and state agencies, ensuring strict compliance with national patient safety goals.
  • Trend Analysis: Review safety occurrences with physicians, clinicians, and department heads to identify clinical trends, conduct root-cause analyses, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Staff Education: Develop and deliver ongoing, formal and informal patient safety education and training modules to hospital staff across all departments.
  • Legal & Claims Liaison: Maintain investigative, claim, and legal files with strict confidentiality; communicate significant safety events promptly through reporting channels and assist legal counsel during active litigation.
  • Performance Improvement: Gather, analyze, and present statistical safety data to drive hospital-wide performance improvement initiatives in collaboration with quality peers.
  • Incident Response: Participate in a scheduled departmental on-call rotation to remain immediately informed of and responsive to patient safety incidents as they occur in real time.
Minimum Essential Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Nursing or a related healthcare field. (Of these degrees, Bachelor of Science in Nursing is highly preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of direct clinical experience OR progressive experience in healthcare risk management, liability, or loss control at an organizational level.
  • Technical & Analytical Skills: Proven ability to work with an array of software applications (including Microsoft Office Suite) and strong analytical aptitude to prepare, interpret, and present statistical safety data.
  • Interpersonal Excellence: Exceptional communication skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate, influence, and build consensus with executive management, physicians, and staff across all levels.
Preferred Asset: Active professional certification in Healthcare Quality Management or Risk Management is highly valued.
